Mardi 21 juillet 2009, 11:00, Salle de Réunion de l’IFRAF.
Séminaire de Robin Côté (University of Connecticut), professeur invité IFRAF.
After a brief review of how trapped ions can be used for quantum computing, we will elaborate on properties of mixed systems of atoms and ions. In particular, the possibility of charge exchange in such systems may lead to interesting phenomena related to condensed matter systems, such as charge hopping conductivity or the formation of dressed ions (or « snowballs »). We will discuss potential experiments to detect these effects.
